Saudi Arabia said a drone attack targeted the Taiba Grid Station in Madinah early Tuesday, temporarily disabling one electricity transformer.
Coalition forces spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said the attack occurred at 5:11am on September 29. He said authorities examined evidence from the site and analysed the drone wreckage before concluding that Houthi forces were involved.
According to Al-Malki, the attack temporarily removed one transformer from service. However, the wider electricity network continued operating normally, preventing a broader disruption to power supplies.
The Taiba Grid Station forms part of the civilian electricity infrastructure serving Madinah, including the Prophet’s Mosque.
Al-Malki condemned the reported targeting of civilian infrastructure and alleged that the attack formed part of ongoing Houthi efforts to threaten holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
He said such attacks were intended to provoke Muslims around the world and create instability around Islam’s holiest locations.
The spokesman added that coalition forces would continue taking measures to prevent similar incidents and protect the Two Holy Mosques.
He also reaffirmed that authorities would maintain security measures to protect pilgrims and visitors in both Makkah and Madinah.
