Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has rejected Israel’s reported offer to participate in military operations against Yemen’s Houthi group, amid escalating attacks on Saudi territory, according to Israeli media reports.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday that Israel sought Riyadh’s approval through US mediation to join the campaign against the Houthis. However, the Saudi crown prince reportedly declined the proposal over concerns that military cooperation with Israel could trigger a negative public reaction within the kingdom.
According to diplomatic sources cited by the newspaper, Israel also viewed the proposed cooperation as an opportunity to strengthen relations with Saudi Arabia and potentially advance efforts towards establishing formal diplomatic ties.
However, Saudi Arabia has not established diplomatic relations with Israel and has maintained that normalisation depends on progress towards resolving the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The reported proposal comes as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified, disrupting aviation operations and raising security concerns across the region.
Recent attacks targeting Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport have reportedly caused casualties and forced authorities to suspend flights. Several international airlines have also cancelled or suspended services amid concerns about aviation safety.
Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have not publicly commented on the reported Israeli offer.
The developments highlight the complex diplomatic calculations facing regional governments as they respond to the escalating conflict in Yemen while weighing the political implications of potential cooperation with Israel.
