Saudi Arabia has involved the United Arab Emirates to manage the menace of Houthi attacks. Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has invited UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit KSA. The move aims at improving ties with UAE after disagreements over Yemen.
The invitation marks the first publicly announced face-to-face engagement between the senior officials since tensions emerged between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi over competing positions in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry said Prince Khalid invited Sheikh Mansour to visit the kingdom on Tuesday. The ministry described the UAE as a “sisterly” country in its statement shared on social media.
The move follows signs of improved relations in July, when senior officials from both countries highlighted their longstanding friendship and shared interests online.
The latest diplomatic outreach comes as Saudi Arabia faces intensified attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement. The group has targeted Saudi interests, including oil facilities, airports, tankers and other infrastructure.
Riyadh has also sought assistance from international partners as the Houthis strengthen their position in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE previously experienced a public dispute after Riyadh accused Abu Dhabi of supporting southern Yemeni separatists, which Saudi officials said posed a threat to national security.
The two Gulf states have also pursued differing approaches to Yemen, Sudan and the Horn of Africa, where they have supported competing regional actors.
