Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have discussed escalating regional tensions and diplomatic efforts to contain the growing crisis, according to Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry.
The discussion took place during a telephone conversation initiated by Araghchi, the ministry said in a statement published on the social media platform X.
According to the statement, both ministers reviewed recent developments across the region and ongoing efforts to address the escalating situation. However, officials did not disclose specific diplomatic proposals or announce any agreements following the conversation.
The diplomatic exchange comes amid intensifying military confrontations, repeated attacks on Saudi civilian infrastructure and disruptions to international shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
On Saturday, a deadly attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh reportedly killed 13 people and injured hundreds, according to TRT World. Yemeni government forces subsequently blamed Houthi fighters for the assault and pledged a decisive response.
Meanwhile, commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues to face significant challenges following restrictions imposed by Tehran in April 2026. These restrictions followed the outbreak of war involving the United States, Israel and Iran in February.
The latest contact between Riyadh and Tehran highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts to address regional instability as security concerns grow across the Middle East.
However, it remains unclear whether the discussions will produce concrete measures to reduce hostilities or restore maritime traffic.
