Deadpool Star Uses Spider-Man Threat to Push Wolverine Toward Marvel’s Next Avengers Movie
Ryan Reynolds has once again brought Deadpool’s trademark humour into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time dragging Hugh Jackman into a playful campaign for a role in Avengers: Doomsday.
A new D23 video shows Jackman reluctantly recording a message asking Marvel Studios to consider adding him to the upcoming Avengers film.
Reynolds stays behind the camera throughout the clip, while his voice can be heard directing Jackman on exactly what to say.
Jackman initially refuses to participate in the joke.
He argues that filming for the movie has already taken place and describes the request as unnecessary.
However, Reynolds quickly increases the pressure in classic Deadpool fashion.
He jokingly suggests that a future Marvel movie could be titled Deadpool and Spider-Man and feature almost every major character except Wolverine.
The threat immediately gets Jackman’s attention.
Jackman responds by accusing Reynolds of being both hurtful and spiteful.
The exchange quickly transforms from a comedy sketch into what appears to be a playful negotiation over Wolverine’s future in the Marvel universe.
Jackman Records Message to Kevin Feige Asking to Join Avengers: Doomsday
Reynolds eventually convinces Jackman to deliver a direct message to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and the D23 audience.
Following Reynolds’ instructions, Jackman asks whether Marvel might need additional help “rounding out the cast” of Avengers: Doomsday.
Jackman remains visibly amused by the absurdity of the request.
He points out that the upcoming Avengers movie already appears to have an enormous cast.
According to Jackman, Marvel already has around 28 characters involved, leading him to question why the studio would need Wolverine or Deadpool as well.
Reynolds responds with another characteristically confident joke.
He claims the pair should be included because they are the “golden ones” and are special.
Jackman eventually gives in and records the requested message.
He says he would love to join Avengers: Doomsday and jokingly adds that he might even be able to convince Reynolds to participate.
The exchange immediately sparked fresh speculation among Marvel fans about whether Wolverine and Deadpool could eventually appear in the film.
Neither Jackman nor Reynolds has been officially confirmed as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast based on the information presented in the video.
Jackman Calls Video ‘Against My Will’ as Reynolds Continues Deadpool Gag
Jackman continued the joke when sharing the video online.
His caption said that if the recording appeared to have been made against his will, it was because it actually was.
Reynolds added to the comedy by describing his own version of the clip as a “hostage video.”
The playful exchange continues the chemistry between the two actors following their hugely popular pairing as Deadpool and Wolverine.
Reynolds has repeatedly blurred the line between his own personality and Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking humour during Marvel promotional appearances.
His latest D23 appearance is another example of that approach.
The actor had already brought Deadpool-style comedy into Marvel’s promotional campaign during San Diego Comic-Con.
During the Avengers: Doomsday presentation, Reynolds appeared as Jeanpool, further fuelling speculation about Deadpool’s possible involvement in Marvel’s upcoming crossover story.
The D23 video now places Wolverine at the centre of those questions.
Jackman’s return as Wolverine has already renewed fan interest in the character’s future after the actor previously appeared to have concluded his long-running role with Logan.
His partnership with Reynolds reopened the possibility of Wolverine continuing to appear in future Marvel projects.
Whether the D23 video is purely promotional comedy or contains a hint about future casting remains unclear.
For now, Reynolds appears determined to keep both Deadpool and Wolverine in the conversation as Marvel prepares its next major Avengers chapter.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled for theatrical release on December 18.
