Russia struck the headquarters of Kyivstar, Ukraine’s largest mobile network operator, on Sunday as attacks on the country’s communications infrastructure intensified.
Kyivstar told Interfax Ukraine that its main office in Kyiv was hit during the attack. However, the company reported no casualties at its headquarters.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces also targeted a data center operated by Vodafone Ukraine, the country’s second-largest mobile network provider. Vodafone Ukraine did not immediately comment on the reported strike.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russian forces struck a Kyiv data center twice on Sunday morning. According to him, two children and an adult suffered injuries in the attacks.
The latest strikes follow several attacks on Ukraine’s digital and telecommunications infrastructure. Over the past week, Russian forces have targeted data centers operated by Ukrainian internet providers.
Ukraine’s Digital Ministry said the attacks disrupted internet services for around 100,000 households across Kyiv and surrounding areas.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Moscow of deliberately targeting major data centers to interrupt information flows. He stressed that reliable communications remain particularly important during Russian missile and drone attacks because Ukrainians depend on rapid warning alerts for their safety.
