Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev departed Pakistan on Thursday after completing a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi saw off his Russian counterpart at the airport. Kolokoltsev thanked Pakistan for its hospitality, saying he was returning home with warm feelings and appreciation for the welcome he received.
The visit marked the first time a Russian interior minister travelled to Pakistan, opening new opportunities for cooperation in law enforcement, security and other areas of mutual interest.
Pakistan and Russia Sign Crime Cooperation Agreement
During his stay, Kolokoltsev held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and other senior officials.
A key outcome was the signing of a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation against organised crime. Both countries also agreed to work towards finalising an extradition treaty and an agreement on transferring convicted criminals.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed improving cooperation against terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration and cybercrime. They also agreed to strengthen institutional links between their law enforcement agencies and promote information sharing.
Broader Cooperation on Trade and Security
The discussions extended beyond law enforcement, covering trade, investment, energy, tourism and economic development. Officials also explored opportunities to facilitate visas for tourists and businesspeople and expand educational exchanges.
Pakistan and Russia agreed to encourage cooperation between their police training institutions and enhance coordination between Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force and relevant Russian agencies.
The Russian minister’s departure followed a series of high-level meetings intended to build on growing engagement between Islamabad and Moscow. Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and pursuing practical cooperation in areas of shared interest.
