The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Wildlife Department has officially granted conditional permission for the hunting of Russian doves within the province. The decision comes with strict regulations to ensure the protection of wildlife and sustainable hunting practices during the season.
Limited Days and Bird Quota Set for Hunters
According to the departmentโs notification, licensed hunters are allowed to hunt Russian doves only until 31st October, and only on three designated days each week: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The hunting fee has been fixed at Rs 25 per bird, and a strict limit of eight birds per hunter has been imposed. Any violation of the quota will result in a fine of Rs 5,000 per excess bird, with immediate legal action against offenders.
The department has also clearly stated that hunting outside the designated days or without a valid hunting licence will lead to penalties, including confiscation of equipment and potential legal proceedings.
Time Restrictions and Conservation Measures
To further regulate the practice, the hunting of Russian doves is strictly prohibited before sunrise and after sunset. These time restrictions are part of broader conservation efforts to minimise disturbance to bird populations and natural habitats.
Officials from the KP Wildlife Department have urged hunters to strictly follow the issued guidelines, warning that random or unregulated hunting will not be tolerated. The department aims to strike a balance between traditional hunting activities and wildlife conservation.
