The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a suspect in Sahiwal over an alleged fraud involving a promise of employment in Qatar. Investigators say the suspect allegedly took Rs800,000 from a citizen by promising to arrange a work visa before disappearing.
The arrested man has been identified as Shahid Afzal. According to the FIA, officials registered a formal case against him under relevant provisions of the Immigration Ordinance following preliminary investigations.
The arrest highlights concerns about fraudulent overseas employment offers that target people seeking better job opportunities abroad. However, the allegations against the suspect remain subject to investigation.
Citizen Allegedly Paid Rs800,000 for Qatar Work Visa
According to initial findings shared by the FIA, Shahid Afzal allegedly persuaded a citizen to pay Rs800,000 for a Qatar work visa. The suspect reportedly promised to arrange the necessary visa but allegedly went into hiding after receiving the money.
As a result, the citizen was allegedly left without the promised employment opportunity and the money paid for the arrangement.
The FIA Composite Circle in Sahiwal arrested the suspect as part of its efforts to investigate alleged immigration-related fraud. Officials have registered a case and are proceeding with the investigation.
FIA Suspects Possible Multiple Victims
Investigators believe the alleged incident may not be an isolated case. According to the FIA, preliminary inquiries suggest that Shahid Afzal may have targeted other citizens through similar promises of lucrative overseas employment.
Officials allege that the suspect collected substantial amounts from multiple people by offering jobs abroad. However, further investigation will be needed to establish the full extent of the alleged activity and identify any additional victims.
The agency has not provided further details about the other alleged cases in the available information.
Investigation Into Overseas Employment Fraud Continues
The case centres on allegations that a citizen lost Rs800,000 after trusting a promise of a Qatar work visa. The FIA has registered a formal case and arrested the suspect, while investigators examine the allegations and possible links to other complaints.
The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the payment and the alleged visa arrangement. Meanwhile, the case serves as a reminder for jobseekers to verify overseas employment offers and visa arrangements before handing money to agents or intermediaries.
