Ronaldo later confirmed on Instagram that he had decided to leave the national team camp following comments by head coach Jorge Jesus and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.

Portugal’s official Instagram account reportedly had around 25 million followers before Ronaldo’s departure.
The number later fell to approximately 23.4 million, representing a reported loss of more than 1.5 million followers.

The situation also gained further attention after Portugal’s iconic No. 7 shirt was reportedly handed to Rafael Leão for the team’s next Nations League match against Denmark.
