Saudi Arabia has welcomed a United Nations Security Council statement urging international cooperation to prevent the Houthis from obtaining weapons and military support. The Saudi Cabinet discussed the development during its meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the government also highlighted concerns over attacks on civilian facilities and threats to maritime traffic in the Red Sea.
Saudi Cabinet Backs UN Security Council Statement
Saudi Media Minister Salman Al-Dossary said the Cabinet welcomed the Security Council’s firm position on Houthi activities. The statement condemned attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, airports and energy facilities in Saudi Arabia.
It also raised concerns about threats to shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, two important routes for international trade.
The Saudi government stressed the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and related resolutions. These measures address the conflict in Yemen and restrictions on weapons supplies to the Houthis.
Maritime Security and Global Trade Remain Priorities
The Cabinet also discussed regional tensions and their potential effects on energy security, international trade and supply chains.
Saudi officials emphasised that protecting commercial shipping requires cooperation among countries. Disruptions to maritime routes can affect fuel supplies, transportation costs and the movement of goods worldwide.
The government reiterated its commitment to diplomatic engagement with partner countries to support regional stability and reduce the impact of ongoing conflicts.
Cabinet Reviews Economic and Legislative Developments
Beyond regional security, the Cabinet reviewed several domestic matters. It noted that foreign direct investment in Saudi Arabia increased by 33.5% in 2025 compared with the previous year.
The government also approved new legislation covering patents, utility models, plant varieties and industrial designs. These measures aim to encourage innovation, support technology transfer and strengthen national industries.
The meeting highlighted Saudi Arabia’s focus on both regional security and economic development, while calling for greater international cooperation to address shared challenges.
