King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh suspended operations after a fresh attack left dozens of people injured and triggered a major security response across the Saudi capital.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. Saudi aviation authorities halted flights while emergency teams assessed damage and secured the airport.
A diplomatic source said the airport was struck by a missile at around 3:00 pm local time. The source linked the attack to Yemen’s Houthi movement, although the group had not immediately issued a fresh claim of responsibility.
Passengers inside the terminal described panic after hearing a loud explosion. Some people were reportedly injured near boarding gates, while others rushed away from the affected area.
Hospitals across Riyadh were placed on emergency alert.
Medical staff were asked to report for duty as ambulances transported injured passengers and airport workers for treatment. Several people were reported to be in critical condition.
Pilgrims travelling toward Makkah were also among those affected.
The latest attack came only days after earlier strikes on Riyadh airport killed three people and damaged a Saudia aircraft. Those attacks were claimed by the Houthis.
Foreign embassies quickly issued security warnings.
The United States, Canada, Germany and Spain advised citizens to avoid the airport. Some diplomatic missions also restricted staff travel in the area.
The renewed violence has increased concern over civilian aviation and security in Saudi Arabia.
Authorities are continuing to assess the full impact of the attack while monitoring the possibility of further threats.
