Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Dera Ismail Khan district conducted a major intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi area, resulting in the killing of ten militants, including Alam Mehsud, the ringleader of Fitna-al-Khawarij.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after credible information was received regarding the presence of a militant group reportedly planning further acts of terrorism in the region. During the engagement, four additional militants were injured as forces moved to secure the area and neutralize the threat.
Officials confirmed that the militants belonged to Fitnat-ul-Khawarij, a faction responsible for multiple violent attacks in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Among those killed, four were identified as Afghan nationals, underscoring continued concerns about cross-border militant movement and the presence of foreign fighters in the tribal belt. Security forces stated that their swift response successfully prevented imminent plans of sabotage.
A significant cache of arms and explosives was recovered during the operation, including suicide vests, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and various types of weaponry.
Authorities said the materials indicated preparations for large-scale attacks, and their recovery has potentially disrupted several future plots. The seizure also highlights the groupโs capability and intent to target both security installations and civilian areas.
Alam Mehsud, the slain ringleader, had a long history of involvement in high-profile attacks. Security officials revealed that he played a key role in the 2008 assault on the Nawaz Kot post and participated in the coordinated attack on Bannu Jail, during which several militants escaped.
He was also linked to multiple assaults on army posts in the region. His death is being described as a significant blow to the groupโs command structure.
Authorities have increased surveillance in surrounding areas to ensure any remaining militants are apprehended. The operation reflects ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and restore stability in the region.
