Desert Installation Draws Regional Attention
Reports circulating on social media claim that Iraqi shepherd Awad Al-Shammari discovered a suspected secret Israeli military installation in Iraqโs western desert earlier this year before local authorities became aware of the site.
According to the reports, the alleged installation lies near coordinates 31.66697ยฐN and 42.44864ยฐE, approximately 70 kilometres from the Saudi border. Analysts reviewing satellite imagery claimed the area includes a dirt runway measuring nearly 1.7 kilometres in length.
Furthermore, observers suggested the facility appeared only days before the outbreak of the recent conflict involving Iran, raising speculation about its possible military purpose and operational role in the region.
However, no independent international authority has publicly confirmed the existence, ownership, or operational status of the alleged site.
The claims nevertheless generated significant attention online because of growing regional tensions and continuing military activity across the Middle East.
Claims Surround Death of Shepherd Remain Unverified
Social media accounts further alleged that Israeli forces later targeted and killed Al-Shammari after he reportedly identified the location. According to those claims, an airstrike or military attack struck his vehicle while he was travelling near the suspected installation.
However, officials in Iraq and Israel have not publicly confirmed the allegations surrounding his death. Additionally, no official military statement has acknowledged operations connected to the reported site.
Security analysts noted that remote desert regions near Iraqโs western frontier have increasingly attracted attention because of strategic concerns linked to regional conflicts, border security, and military surveillance activities.
Meanwhile, researchers and open-source intelligence observers continue examining satellite imagery and geographic data to verify the authenticity of the reported facility.
Consequently, uncertainty remains surrounding both the alleged military installation and the circumstances connected to Al-Shammariโs reported death.
