ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has reappointed Rehmat Ali Hasnie as President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bank of Pakistan for a temporary period of two weeks.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on August 6, 2026, the appointment will take effect from August 7, 2026. However, the tenure will end after two weeks or when a new President and CEO assumes office, whichever occurs earlier.
The notification states that the interim reappointment aims to ensure uninterrupted leadership at the country’s largest public sector commercial bank. Consequently, the bank’s administrative and operational activities will continue without disruption.
Rehmat Ali Hasnie will continue overseeing the institution during the interim period. Meanwhile, the government is expected to complete the process of appointing a permanent President and CEO.
The National Bank of Pakistan plays a central role in the country’s banking sector. Moreover, it operates an extensive nationwide branch network and serves millions of customers across Pakistan.
The bank also employs thousands of people and provides a wide range of financial services to individuals, businesses, and government institutions. Therefore, continuity in its leadership remains important for its day-to-day operations.
The Finance Division issued the notification on Thursday, confirming the temporary extension of Hasnie’s tenure. The arrangement will remain in force until a regular appointment is finalized or the two-week period expires, whichever comes first.
