Xiaomi has launched the global versions of the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 5G, bringing major upgrades over the previous generation.
The two smartphones share most of their hardware. The main differences are their processors and network connectivity, with the Note 17 5G adding support for 5G networks.
Large AMOLED Display and Updated Design
Both Redmi Note 17 models feature a 6.99-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The screens can reach up to 1,800 nits of brightness and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. An optical fingerprint scanner is built into the display.
Both phones also carry an IP65 rating for protection against dust and water splashes.
The larger displays and batteries have increased their weight. The Redmi Note 17 weighs 224 grams, while the 5G version weighs 225 grams.
Both models are available in Celestial Purple, Sky Teal and Black.
Different Processors, Same HyperOS 3
The standard Redmi Note 17 is powered by Qualcommโs 6nm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 processor, with CPU speeds reaching up to 2.9GHz.
It comes with 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The phone also supports microSD expansion.
The Redmi Note 17 5G uses the newer 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset. It offers up to 2.3GHz CPU speeds and comes with 6GB or 8GB RAM, paired with 128GB or 256GB storage.
Both smartphones run Android 16 with Xiaomiโs HyperOS 3 and are promised six years of security updates.
50MP Camera and Huge 7,700mAh Battery
Camera hardware remains the same across both models.
Each phone features a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with PDAF on the rear. A 16MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.
The biggest upgrade comes in the battery department. Xiaomi has equipped both models with a massive 7,700mAh silicon-carbon battery.
Both phones support 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging. The reverse charging feature allows users to power compatible accessories and other devices.

The Redmi Note 17 starts at $250 and is offered in five configurations:
