The Rawalpindi police have intensified security measures across the city in anticipation of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistanโs (TLP) planned march toward Islamabad on October 10. The move aims to prevent any law and order disturbance or public inconvenience during the protest.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani chaired a high-level meeting with senior officers to review the situation and outline strategies to ensure public safety. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate violence, property damage, or disruptions to normal life under the guise of protest.
Strict Warning Against Law Violations
The CPO issued a clear warning, stating that no road blockades, attacks on public property, or interference with traffic would be allowed. He further added that those violating the law will face strict action.
โAny act that disrupts citizensโ daily lives or targets law enforcement agencies will be dealt with firmly,โ said Hamdani. He reiterated that the Rawalpindi police remain fully prepared to respond to any unlawful activities.
Islamabad Administration Takes Precautionary Steps
Meanwhile, the Islamabad administration has begun placing shipping containers at Faizabad Interchange, a site historically associated with TLP sit-ins. The containers are being positioned to control possible unrest and restrict movement if needed, sources confirmed.
Officials have also ordered the evacuation of hotels along Murree Road and nearby areas to avoid potential misuse by protesters. However, all routes between Islamabad and Rawalpindi remain open for now. Authorities said the decision to close roads will depend on the developing situation.
Police on High Alert
Security forces are on high alert, with additional personnel deployed at key points, including Faizabad, Liaquat Bagh, and Committee Chowk. Police have also increased patrols and surveillance to ensure peace and order.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and avoid unnecessary travel near protest sites. The police assured that public safety remains their top priority, and any attempt to disturb peace will be met with immediate action.
