Police inquiry confirms complaint as officer and two accomplices face criminal charges
RAWALPINDI: A police constable posted at Chaklala Police Station has been arrested along with two alleged accomplices after an internal inquiry confirmed accusations that he kidnapped a citizen, threatened to implicate him in a criminal case and extorted money for his release.
According to police officials, the accused officer allegedly abducted the victim after threatening to register a false criminal case against him. Authorities said the citizen was released only after paying money to the suspects.
Following the complaint, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera immediately ordered an inquiry into the allegations. The investigation found sufficient evidence supporting the complaint, prompting the arrest of Constable Mohsin Zia and his two private accomplices from the CPO office.
Police have registered a criminal case against the three suspects on charges of kidnapping and extortion, while further investigations are underway to determine whether they were involved in similar incidents.
Inquiry leads to swift action
Officials stated that the inquiry verified the allegations made by the complainant, leading to immediate disciplinary and legal action. Authorities emphasized that the arrests demonstrate the department’s commitment to investigating complaints against its personnel without delay.
The accused constable was serving at Chaklala Police Station at the time of the alleged incident.
Zero-tolerance policy reaffirmed
Commenting on the case, CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said the Rawalpindi Police would not tolerate corruption, abuse of authority or misconduct under any circumstances. He stressed that police officers must perform their duties with integrity and professionalism while respecting the rights of citizens.
He further stated that the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, injustice and the mistreatment of the public. According to Sukhera, strict legal and departmental action will continue against any officer found involved in unlawful activities.
The latest development comes amid increased scrutiny of police conduct following several recent allegations involving law enforcement personnel in Punjab. Authorities have reiterated that accountability and transparency remain key priorities, adding that complaints against police officials will be investigated impartially to strengthen public trust and ensure that officers violating the law face appropriate legal consequences.
