In a recent development, Pakistan Muslim League leader Raja Riaz made serious allegations on Sunday, asserting that Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Chatha had been offered a bribe of Rs250 million to level accusations against the integrity of the 2024 elections.
Addressing reporters in Faisalabad, Riaz went on to claim that Chatha had allegedly received a luxurious flat in New York as a gift from overseas Pakistanis, as part of a deal to make accusations against both the chief election commissioner and the chief justice of Pakistan.
Riaz emphasized Chatha’s purportedly corrupt track record, citing his 20-year tenure in Faisalabad. Additionally, he asserted that Chatha’s previous appointment was allegedly secured through a Rs50 million bribe to Usman Buzdar.
Calling for immediate action, Raja Riaz demanded that Chatha’s name be added to the Exit Control List pending the completion of investigations.
These accusations come on the heels of a controversial news conference on Saturday, where Chatha had claimed that election results in 13 constituencies of Rawalpindi had been manipulated. Riaz, who recently switched allegiance from PTI to PMLN, attributed the ruling party’s routine complaints of election rigging to its history of losses.
Raja Riaz concluded by revealing that Nawaz Sharif had purportedly decided to vie for the position of Prime Minister only if he could secure a simple majority. Consequently, Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated for the top post, as per Riaz’s statements.
