ISLAMABAD: Large parts of Pakistan continued to experience intense heat on Monday, with high temperatures recorded in major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, while the weather department forecast rainfall in northern regions later in the day.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures in Lahore were expected to climb to 42 degrees Celsius as hot and dry conditions persisted throughout the day. The Met Office reported that winds in the provincial capital were blowing at nearly seven kilometres per hour, while humidity levels remained around 42 percent under mostly clear skies.
Furthermore, the weather department warned that most districts across Punjab would continue to face severe heatwave conditions. Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours as temperatures remained significantly above seasonal averages.
Meanwhile, warm weather also persisted in Islamabad, where temperatures were likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius during the daytime. However, the Met Office predicted rainfall and thunderstorms in the federal capital later at night. Winds in the city were recorded at approximately nine kilometres per hour.
In Karachi, residents continued to face hot and humid conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels in the coastal city stood at 72 percent, while south-westerly winds were blowing at around 19 kilometres per hour. Officials added that intermittent strong winds could affect different parts of the city during the day.
Despite the humid weather, Karachiโs air quality remained satisfactory, with particulate matter levels staying below 100 particles per cubic metre. Additionally, the Met Office forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in parts of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
