SHANGLA: Continuous rainfall triggered landslides and flooding in several areas of Shangla, forcing authorities to suspend traffic on multiple sections of the Karakoram Highway and disrupting travel across the region.
According to local officials, the highway remained closed in Jeejal and Patan after overflowing streams flooded parts of the road network. The rising water level created dangerous conditions for commuters and halted the movement of vehicles along the affected route.
Moreover, authorities also reported road blockages in Khidarnala and Sablomor, where heavy rain caused landslides and debris to fall onto the highway. The ongoing spell of bad weather has continued to create difficulties for travelers and transport operators using the key mountainous route.
Vehicles Damaged Amid Severe Weather
Officials confirmed that several vehicles travelling through the affected areas sustained damage during the rain-related incidents. However, no major casualties were immediately reported.
Meanwhile, stranded passengers faced delays as traffic remained suspended at multiple points. Residents in nearby areas also expressed concern over worsening road conditions and the possibility of further landslides if rainfall continues.
Authorities stated that emergency teams have been monitoring vulnerable locations to prevent additional accidents and ensure public safety during the adverse weather conditions.
Restoration Efforts Continue
The National Highway Authority and local administration have launched operations to clear debris and restore traffic flow on the blocked sections of the highway. Heavy machinery and rescue teams were dispatched to affected locations to reopen the road as quickly as possible.
Furthermore, officials advised travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys and check the latest road updates before departing. Weather-related disruptions continue to impact several important transportation routes in northern Pakistan following persistent rainfall across mountainous districts.
