DOHA: Qatar has signed an agreement with the United Nations to provide approximately 1.3 million litres of fuel to the Gaza Strip to support humanitarian operations and the territory’s healthcare system, the Qatari Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.
Doha will provide the fuel as a grant intended to maintain essential services and assist humanitarian organisations operating in Gaza.
According to the ministry, part of the shipment will supply hospitals and medical centres, while other quantities will support essential infrastructure and services that require a continuous energy supply.
Qatar Says Fuel Will Support Essential Services
The Qatari government said the latest agreement forms part of its continuing humanitarian assistance programme for Gaza.
Furthermore, Doha said it had supplied approximately 30 million litres of fuel to the territory between October 7, 2023, and the end of March 2026.
Qatar announced an additional 15 million litres of fuel for Gaza in February 2025, bringing its reported overall supply at that stage to around 30 million litres.
The ministry said fuel-supported health and humanitarian services could benefit Gaza’s population of approximately 2.1 million people, including children, women, elderly people and people with disabilities.
Distribution and Delivery Details Remain Unclear
However, Qatar did not specify when the latest 1.3 million litres would enter Gaza or explain how authorities would transport the fuel into the territory.
The announcement also did not identify which UN agency would take responsibility for distributing the shipment after its arrival.
Meanwhile, the fuel grant comes as Gaza’s hospitals and humanitarian organisations continue to depend heavily on reliable energy supplies to maintain medical treatment and other essential operations.
Qatar said the agreement reflects its continuing efforts to support humanitarian needs in Gaza through cooperation with international organisations.
Further details about the delivery timetable, border entry arrangements and allocation among individual facilities were not included in the announcement.
