Qatar has proposed a two-page agreement aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute between the United States and Iran, 24NewsHD TV reported Wednesday.
According to US media reports, negotiations between Washington and Tehran have failed to produce significant progress, raising concerns that tensions could escalate into military action following the US midterm elections.
Iran is seeking an end to the blockade and concessions from Washington on issues related to its nuclear programme.
Iranian Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said the US president had become trapped in a difficult situation in which Washington could neither pursue negotiations nor engage in military action effectively.
Speaking during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s deputy prime minister, Rezaei claimed that the United States had resorted to an aerial blockade after facing difficulties in the military confrontation.
He also said Iran was prepared to contribute to peace efforts in the Caucasus. Rezaei maintained that Tehran opposed continued US involvement in the region and would continue resisting American influence.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have resumed high-level engagement following months of differences over developments in Yemen.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Riyadh.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also attended the meeting, according to Saudi state media.
The talks focused on bilateral relations and regional developments as tensions surrounding Yemen remain high.
Saudi Arabia has previously accused the UAE of supporting Yemeni forces whose activities, according to Riyadh, posed a threat to its national security.
