Retired Colonel Qasim Shah, widely remembered as Gulsher from the iconic Pakistani drama Alpha Bravo Charlie, has shared an emotional regret about his late mother.
During a recent television appearance, Qasim Shah recalled the final days he spent with his mother and admitted that he wishes he had given her more time and attention.
He said he was once using his phone when his mother became upset and walked away. Just 20 days later, she passed away.
Qasim said the incident has remained with him ever since.
He explained that if he had known his mother had so little time left, he would have immediately put his phone away and spent those precious moments with her.
His story highlighted a deeply personal lesson about the importance of giving attention to loved ones while there is still time.
The Moment That Changed His Life
Qasim Shah also recalled how he unexpectedly entered the world of television while serving at the Pakistan Military Academy.
He revealed that he was once punished and had to remain at the academy while other cadets went on holiday.
During that period, he was asked to accompany filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor around the academy.
Qasim said Mansoor closely observed him during those two days. At the time, he did not understand why the filmmaker was paying such close attention to him.
Around two months later, Qasim was called to the academy headquarters.
He was eventually taken into a room where Shoaib Mansoor, Mohsin Rizvi, Saleem Sheikh, Faraz and Kashif were present.
The team handed him a script and asked him to perform.
Qasim said they were impressed with his delivery and eventually told him that they had found their Gulsher.
Gulsher Became a Television Icon
The role of Gulsher went on to become one of the most memorable characters in Pakistani television history.
Qasim Shah gained widespread recognition through ISPR productions, including Sunehray Din and Alpha Bravo Charlie.
His portrayal of Gulsher earned him a lasting place in the memories of Pakistani television viewers.
Decades later, the character continues to attract a new generation of viewers.
Qasim’s appearance also showed a more personal side of the actor and former army officer, particularly his regret over not giving his mother his full attention during what turned out to be their final days together.
