LAHORE: Two robbers adopted a unique method to deprive famous comedian Qaisar Piya of his expensive cellphone in Lahore. Renowned stage actor Qaiser Piya became the victim of a robbery on Wednesday, police confirmed. The incident occurred when his car stopped at a traffic signal in the Garden Town area, officials said.
According to the first information report (FIR) filed with Garden Town police, two suspects targeted the vehicle of Qaisar Piya and executed the snatching within seconds like a movie scene.
One suspect knocked on the window and initiated an argument to distract the actor, while the other moved to the opposite side. Moments later, the second suspect grabbed Piyaโs expensive mobile phone and both fled in a waiting vehicle.
Police registered a case shortly after the complaint and launched an investigation to trace the suspects. Officers said they are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and collecting statements from potential witnesses to identify the culprits. Investigators have also begun examining vehicle movement in the area to determine the escape route used by the thieves.
Rising concern over street crime
Meanwhile, the incident has renewed concerns about street crime, particularly in busy commercial neighborhoods where traffic signals often create opportunities for snatchers. Residents have repeatedly called on authorities to increase patrols and improve monitoring at major intersections.
Police urged citizens to remain vigilant, keep windows locked, and avoid using mobile phones in traffic to reduce risk. Officials added that public cooperation and timely reporting play a critical role in curbing such crimes.
Authorities assured that they would intensify security measures in response to the incident and would share updates as the inquiry progresses. They encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact police immediately. The investigation continues, and officers expressed confidence that coordinated efforts will help identify and apprehend suspects.
