The Punjab government has decided to establish its own government-based cloud infrastructure with an estimated cost of Rs7.4 billion. The initiative aims to strengthen digital governance while supporting artificial intelligence and secure government data management.
As part of the project, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has started preparing the PC-1 document. This step will lay the foundation for developing the province’s modern cloud infrastructure.
The proposed system is expected to support future government technology initiatives while reducing reliance on external cloud service providers.
Project Aims to Strengthen AI and Data Security
The government plans to build a modern cloud infrastructure that will improve the security of official data. At the same time, it will provide the computing power needed for artificial intelligence projects.

Global Technical Assistance Planned for GPU-Based Cloud
To support the project, the Punjab government plans to seek technical assistance from a global company for its GPU-based cloud infrastructure.
GPU-powered cloud systems are designed to handle advanced computing tasks. Therefore, they are considered essential for artificial intelligence applications and large-scale data processing.
The technical collaboration is expected to help develop a modern cloud environment capable of meeting the province’s growing digital requirements.
Chief Minister Gives In-Principle Approval
The Punjab Chief Minister has already granted in-principle approval for the Rs7.4 billion project. Meanwhile, PITB is working on the planning phase to move the proposal forward.
According to PITB authorities, the new cloud infrastructure will reduce dependence on external cloud services. As a result, government departments will be able to manage their digital operations through a dedicated provincial platform.
Officials also believe that an AI-equipped cloud system has become an important requirement for expanding digital governance. Consequently, the project is expected to play a key role in supporting future government technology initiatives across Punjab.
