LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Home Department has directed the inclusion of “Good Touch, Bad Touch” awareness in school curricula as part of a province-wide initiative to prevent child abuse and promote personal safety education.
In an official communication to the School Education Department, authorities emphasized the importance of early childhood instruction on recognizing appropriate and inappropriate physical contact. The directive calls for age-appropriate lessons to help children understand physical boundaries and develop awareness of personal safety.
“Teaching children about personal safety is crucial in today’s environment,” the statement read, outlining plans to create structured educational modules that explain these concepts in a child-friendly manner.
The initiative aims to empower children by educating them on how to identify and report inappropriate behavior, both at home and in public spaces. Education officials have been instructed to work closely with child protection experts to design effective teaching materials.
“Children who experience abuse can suffer long-term trauma,” the communication highlighted, stressing that prevention through awareness is key. The directive also emphasizes that children should be encouraged to speak out rather than fear potential abusers.
As part of a broader awareness campaign, the Punjab Home Department is also working with the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau to further promote the “Good Touch, Bad Touch” concept across the province. This initiative is seen as a critical step in safeguarding vulnerable children and fostering a culture of safety and awareness.
