The Punjab government has decided to introduce artificial intelligence education for special children to meet modern educational needs.
Special Education Secretary Shoaib Iqbal said efforts were underway to provide children with education aligned with technological developments. The Special Education Department has also been working on technology-based learning and improving accessibility for students with special needs.
Under the initiative, teachers in the special education system will receive specialized training in AI. The training will help educators use modern tools and develop teaching methods according to students’ individual learning requirements.
Technology To Support Modern Learning
Iqbal said modern technology would be used to make education easier and more effective for special children. Meanwhile, new teaching approaches will focus on their specific educational needs and improve their access to digital learning.
The government also plans to include sports and other activities in the educational process. These activities are intended to support students’ academic development while contributing to their overall growth.
The initiative follows a broader push for reforms in Punjab’s special education system. A recent policy dialogue organized by the Special Education Department and UNICEF highlighted curriculum reforms, modern technology and professional development as key priorities.
Punjab Expands Focus On AI Education
Punjab is also pursuing wider AI education reforms across its school system. The provincial government plans to introduce AI as a subject from Class 1 through Class 12 and establish laboratories to support the new curriculum.
The proposed reforms also include reducing textbook content by 25% and adding QR codes that connect students with video lessons. In addition, teacher training will be expanded to support a shift toward concept-based learning.
The move reflects Punjab’s growing focus on technology-driven education and more accessible learning opportunities for children with special needs.
