LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to introduce Global Citizenship as a 100-mark subject in government schools across the province in collaboration with UNICEF, according to a report on Monday.
The initiative will add Global Citizenship to the curriculum as provincial education authorities simultaneously undertake an extensive exercise to verify student enrolment and textbook requirements.
Moreover, the Punjab Education Department has sought fully attested data for students enrolled in government schools and directed institutions to update their latest records through the designated online portal.
Schools Ordered to Verify Student Enrolment Data
Under the instructions, head teachers will attest student data from primary to fourth grade. Authorities will also verify ninth-grade students according to the names recorded on the online portal.
Additionally, schools must provide separate enrolment information for English- and Urdu-medium students.
The department has directed all school heads to complete the verification process within three days, while chief executive officers of district education authorities will remain responsible for submitting the required information.
The CEOs will also verify and attest the available stock of textbooks in their respective districts.
Data to Determine Textbook Requirements for 2027-28
Meanwhile, the government plans to use the verified enrolment figures to determine textbook requirements for the 2027-28 academic year.
All government schools have been instructed to submit student enrolment data for additional textbooks by September 8, 2026.
Furthermore, the School Education Department has activated a dedicated online portal allowing schools and education officials to correct errors or address deficiencies in enrolment records.
The data verification exercise is intended to provide authorities with updated student numbers and textbook stock information before books are allocated for the coming academic year.
The Global Citizenship curriculum initiative and enrolment verification will apply across Punjab’s government school system.
