The Excise & Taxation Department Punjab, has introduced a new digital initiative to make vehicle verification simpler, faster, and more accessible for citizens in Pakistan and overseas.
In collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the department has enabled online biometric verification of vehicles through the PAK-ID system. The new service allows local residents as well as NICOP holders living abroad to complete vehicle verification digitally, removing the need for in-person visits to excise offices or reliance on third-party agents.
The initiative is aimed at improving public convenience while strengthening transparency and security in vehicle ownership records. By integrating biometric verification, authorities can ensure accurate identification of vehicle owners and reduce the risk of fraud or unauthorized transfers.
Previously, overseas Pakistanis faced a lengthy and cumbersome process. Vehicle verification required submitting attested affidavits, which had to be verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Pakistani embassies abroad. This multi-step procedure often caused delays, added costs, and discouraged timely compliance.
With the launch of the PAK-ID-based system, these manual requirements have been eliminated. Eligible users can now complete the entire verification process remotely from their homes, using secure digital authentication provided by NADRA. The streamlined process is expected to significantly reduce processing time while improving overall service delivery.
Officials from the Excise & Taxation Department Punjab said the initiative reflects the governmentโs broader push toward e-governance and citizen-centric digital services. The department emphasized that the new system will not only benefit overseas Pakistanis but also local vehicle owners by minimizing queues, paperwork, and administrative hurdles.
The move has been welcomed as a step toward modernizing public services and enhancing ease of doing business for citizens. Authorities have encouraged vehicle owners to use the PAK-ID platform to take advantage of the faster and more efficient verification process, marking another milestone in Punjabโs digital transformation of government services.
