Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has directed relevant authorities to complete the Faisalabad and Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit projects by March 2027. The Chief Minister issued the instructions during a special review meeting held in Lahore.
She also ordered officials to continue construction work in three shifts. Additionally, she reviewed the latest progress through authentic drone footage and stressed timely completion of both projects.
Gujranwala Yellow Line Shows Steady Progress
Officials informed the meeting that the 31.5-kilometre Gujranwala Yellow Line will feature 25 stations. The project will also include two underground stations, 12 underpasses, a 35-kilometre service road, and signal-free U-turns.
According to the briefing, nearly one-third of the project has already been completed. Furthermore, workers have installed 1,233 poles and 552 transformers. Construction of a 62-kilometre drainage system has also reached 40 percent completion.
Officials added that workers will lay 15,000 feet of sewerage lines. They will also install 12,000 feet of water supply lines and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines for the project.
Faisalabad Project Advances Toward Completion
Authorities reported significant progress on the Faisalabad Mass Transit System. They have replanted 1,835 trees and laid 15 kilometres of gas pipelines. In addition, workers have completed the construction of 12 bus stops.
Maryam Nawaz said she understood the challenges faced by residents during construction activities. Therefore, she instructed departments to maintain momentum and meet the March 2027 deadline.
The Punjab government considers both transit projects essential for improving urban transportation. Once they are completed, the systems will provide safer, faster, and more efficient travel options for thousands of daily commuters.
