New Labour Rates Announced for Six Months
The Punjab government has revised daily wage rates for workers employed on public development and construction projects.
The new rates will remain effective from July to December 2026.
The Finance Department issued a formal notification confirming the updated wage structure.
The revised rates will apply to labour hired for government schemes, construction work and public-sector contracts.
Skilled Workers to Receive Rs2,000 Per Day
The daily wage for unskilled workers has been fixed at Rs1,538.
Skilled workers will receive Rs2,000 per day.
This category includes masons, electricians, plumbers, welders and other trained workers.
Semi-skilled workers will be paid Rs1,560 per day.
Gardeners, chainmen and workers performing similar duties fall under this category.
The government has also maintained the monthly minimum wage at Rs40,000.
The monthly rate will apply to eligible workers employed on a regular monthly basis.
Public Project Costs Expected to Increase
The revised wages will be used when departments prepare cost estimates for development schemes.
Government agencies will also apply the new rates while calculating construction budgets and contract values.
Higher labour costs may increase the estimated cost of some public-sector projects.
Contractors working on government schemes will also need to adjust their labour expenses.
The Finance Department has directed relevant departments to follow the revised schedule during the next six months.
The new wage structure aims to reflect current labour costs and provide improved compensation to workers.
