Heavy monsoon rains caused multiple roof and wall collapses across Punjab. As a result, nine people died and 37 others suffered injuries during the last 24 hours.
Authorities reported casualties from several districts. Meanwhile, rescue teams continued operations in affected areas.
Roof Collapses Cause Deaths Across Punjab
Gujranwala recorded the highest number of casualties. Four people lost their lives, while 14 others sustained injuries.
In Pakpatan, a house roof collapsed and killed two people. Additionally, two others suffered injuries in the incident.
A woman also died in Sahiwal after another rain-related accident. Furthermore, four people were injured near Gulshan-e-Ravi on Lahore’s Band Road.
Meanwhile, 12 people suffered injuries in separate roof and wall collapse incidents. These incidents occurred in Bahawalnagar, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin.
Child Dies as Heavy Rains Damage Homes
A two-year-old child died in Zhob after a roof collapsed. The incident occurred in the Tora Khola area during heavy monsoon rainfall.
Rainfall also damaged several houses across Zhob and nearby areas. Consequently, many families faced significant losses and hardships.
Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Naveed Alam visited the affected area. He inspected damaged houses and reviewed the extent of destruction.
He confirmed that heavy rains damaged numerous homes in Tora Khola. Moreover, he directed authorities to provide immediate assistance to affected families.
Officials also announced a detailed assessment of losses. Relief operations will begin after the completion of evaluations.
Meanwhile, residents urged the government to provide financial support. They also demanded urgent rehabilitation and reconstruction measures.
In another incident, a man died in Raiwind’s Kot Babu Khan area. Three others, including a woman and a child, suffered injuries.
Rescue officials said continuous rainfall weakened the old structure. Therefore, authorities advised residents to remain cautious in unsafe buildings.
