Single Uniform Design Approved Across Police Units
Punjab Police has approved a new uniform policy aimed at creating a standard appearance across all operational units in the province.
Under the new policy, uniform accessories will follow one approved design across the force.
Badges, caps, berets, medals, pockets and nameplates will be standardised.
The existing colour schemes of police uniforms will remain unchanged.
Officials said different police formations had previously used varying designs for uniforms and accessories.
The new policy is intended to remove those differences and create greater consistency across the department.
District Police, Traffic Police, Punjab Highway Patrol and specialised forces will all follow the approved standards.
Authorities believe the change will also make police personnel easier to identify and improve the overall professional appearance of the force.
More Than 253,000 Uniforms to Be Purchased
Punjab Police plans to procure more than 253,000 uniforms during the current financial year.
The uniforms will be distributed among personnel serving in different police formations across the province.
These include the District Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Traffic Police, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit and Regional Mounted Police.
Other specialised departments will also receive new uniforms under the programme.
District Police will receive the largest share.
More than 125,000 olive-green uniforms are expected to be purchased for District Police personnel alone.
Officials said every police officer serving in the covered units will receive at least one new uniform.
The provincial government has allocated nearly Rs2 billion in the current budget for the procurement programme.
The funding will cover uniforms and approved accessories required under the new standardisation policy.
Authorities expect the procurement process to begin during August.
The pre-qualification process for companies interested in supplying the 253,000 uniforms is expected to start later this month.
Suppliers will be required to meet approved specifications relating to material, stitching, design and uniform accessories.
90,000 Previously Purchased Uniforms Ready for Distribution
Punjab Police is also preparing to distribute uniforms purchased under last year’s procurement programme.
Officials said approximately 90,000 uniforms acquired for District Police personnel have already been received.
These uniforms will soon be distributed among officers across the province.
The latest procurement will take place separately and will cover the requirements for the current financial year.
Police authorities said standardisation will ensure that personnel working in different districts and specialised units follow the same approved appearance.
The policy will also establish common specifications for badges, medals and identification accessories.
Officials said the changes are part of wider efforts to improve administrative consistency within Punjab Police.
The procurement process will now move towards pre-qualification before contracts are awarded to selected suppliers.
