The Punjab government has approved a new recruitment mechanism for doctors and medical specialists across the province. The initiative aims to strengthen hiring practices while ensuring transparency and merit in appointments at newly established healthcare centres.
According to the approved policy, special selection committees will oversee the recruitment process. These committees will evaluate candidates for medical positions and ensure appointments are made through a structured and transparent system.
The government believes the revised framework will improve the quality of recruitment. At the same time, it is expected to help healthcare institutions attract qualified professionals more efficiently.
Merit-Based Appointments for BS-17 and Above
Under the new policy, all positions from BS-17 and above will be filled strictly on merit.
Officials said special selection committees will manage the hiring process for these posts. Consequently, recruitment decisions will be based on qualifications and recommendations made by the designated committees.
The government stated that the revised system is designed to promote fairness and improve confidence in the recruitment process.
Contract-Based Hiring Procedure Finalized
In addition to permanent appointments, the Punjab government has also finalized the procedure for recruiting doctors and medical specialists on a contract basis for newly established health centres.
According to the approved framework, these appointments will only be made after recommendations from the designated high-level selection committees.
Officials said this approach will ensure that recruitment remains consistent with the government’s merit-based policy.
Selection Committees to Include Senior Officials
The approved mechanism outlines the composition of the selection committees responsible for recruitment.
Under the framework, the Executive Director, Principal, or Head of the relevant institution will serve as the convener of the committee.
Furthermore, commissioners, senior professors, and experienced government officials will also become members of these committees.
The government expects their participation to strengthen transparency and maintain high professional standards during the recruitment process.
Government Approves Implementation Framework
The Punjab government’s Regulation Wing has formally approved the Health Department’s proposal to implement the new recruitment mechanism.
Meanwhile, the Finance Department has confirmed that funding for these appointments will be provided through the department’s internal budget resources.
Officials believe the new system will streamline recruitment, strengthen merit-based hiring, and improve staffing at newly established healthcare facilities across Punjab.
