Punjab has established its first dedicated pediatric burn unit at Children’s Hospital Lahore, marking a major step toward improving specialized healthcare facilities for children suffering from serious burn injuries.
The new facility has been established by the Punjab Health Department on the upper floor of the hospital’s existing Diagnostic Block. It has been designed specifically to address the unique medical needs of children affected by burns, offering specialized treatment, surgical facilities and intensive care services under one roof.
The newly established unit has a total capacity of 30 beds, including eight dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for critically injured children requiring continuous monitoring and advanced medical support.
Advanced Surgical Facilities Added
To strengthen treatment capabilities, the pediatric burn unit has also been equipped with three fully functional operation theaters.
These operating rooms will allow medical teams to perform complex procedures and reconstructive surgeries required for children with severe burn injuries.
Healthcare officials said the facility will help improve the management of critical burn cases by providing specialized surgical and recovery services that were previously limited.
Medical Staff Deployed for 24/7 Care
Authorities have completed the recruitment process for consultant-level medical staff for the new unit.
A team of medical officers, nursing staff and paramedical personnel has also been deployed to ensure round-the-clock patient care.
The medical teams will provide emergency treatment, intensive monitoring, surgical assistance and post-operative care for children admitted with burn injuries.
Officials said trained nursing and support staff would play a key role in helping young patients recover through proper wound management, rehabilitation support and continuous supervision.
Reducing Pressure on Existing Burn Wards
The establishment of the dedicated pediatric burn unit is expected to reduce the burden on general burn wards and improve access to specialized treatment for children.
Burn injuries among children often require long-term medical care, repeated surgeries and specialized rehabilitation. The new facility aims to provide a child-focused environment where patients can receive treatment according to their specific needs.
Health authorities said the project reflects Punjab’s efforts to expand specialized healthcare services and improve emergency response facilities for vulnerable patients.
