The Punjab government has started distributing agricultural land under the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” programme. Consequently, eligible families in Cholistan will receive farmland to improve livelihoods and promote agricultural development.
According to the Bahawalpur commissioner, 83,000 acres have been allocated for distribution in Cholistan. The allocation marks the largest land distribution under the provincial initiative.
More than 16,000 beneficiaries are expected to receive five-acre agricultural plots. Moreover, the government aims to increase farming opportunities and strengthen rural economic activity.
Thousands Qualify For Land Scheme
At the launch ceremony, officials handed allotment letters to 25 successful applicants. Meanwhile, the Cholistan Development Authority confirmed strong public interest in the programme.
According to officials, authorities received 52,158 applications from across the region. After verification, they approved 27,647 applications for eligibility under the scheme.
In the first phase, the government will distribute land to 10,290 eligible Cholistan families. Furthermore, officials said additional beneficiaries will receive land in future phases.
Government Announces Financial Support
The Punjab government has partnered with the Agriculture Department to support the programme financially. Under the initiative, authorities will provide Rs. 4.25 billion in assistance to eligible farmers.
Each beneficiary will receive Rs. 50,000 per acre to prepare land and begin cultivation. Additionally, the financial support will help cover other farming-related expenses during the initial stages.
Officials believe the programme will create sustainable employment opportunities and improve agricultural productivity across Cholistan. Meanwhile, the government expects the initiative to strengthen rural livelihoods and support long-term economic growth.
