The Punjab government has issued a notification announcing the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to address the Bahawalnagar incident.
Headed by Special Home Secretary Fazal-ur-Rehman, the team comprises Bahawalpur Commissioner Nadir Chatha and DIG Special Branch Faisal Raza, along with representatives from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Previously, the SSP declared that the Bahawalnagar incident was swiftly resolved through the collaborative efforts of the army and police. However, despite the resolution, negative propaganda surfaced on social media.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that although the incident was resolved promptly, certain entities engaged in social media propaganda, attempting to sow discord among state institutions and government departments. The ISPR emphasized that those accountable for breaking laws and misusing authority will be identified.
To uncover the truth and pinpoint responsibility, a joint inquiry will be conducted. The ISPR stated that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out by a team comprising security and police personnel.
The ISPR’s statement underscored the significance of maintaining unity among state institutions and condemned any attempts to create divisions. It reiterated the commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for any wrongdoing.
The announcement of the JIT and the commitment to a thorough investigation reflect the government’s determination to address the Bahawalnagar incident transparently and hold accountable those responsible for any violations or misuse of power.
