The Punjab government has decided to fully digitize all toll plazas across the province to enhance transparency, streamline toll collection, and facilitate easier travel for citizens.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where the complete elimination of the manual paper slip system was approved in favor of a modern, automated digital system.
Under the new initiative, a โOne App, One Systemโ modelโsimilar to the system used on national motorwaysโwill be implemented at 38 toll plazas throughout Punjab. The digital system aims to ensure transparency, reduce human involvement in toll collection, and improve traffic flow.
During the meeting, officials presented updates on several ongoing and upcoming development projects in the transport, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also approved five major road projects to be executed under public-private partnerships (PPP), emphasizing that this approach would accelerate project completion and lower costs through private sector collaboration.
It was further highlighted that Punjab has saved Rs 40 billion through the implementation of e-tendering, marking a significant improvement in transparency and accountability in government procurement processes.
The chief minister directed that solar-powered streetlights be installed along all newly constructed roads to promote renewable energy use and support environmentally friendly infrastructure development.
In addition to transport initiatives, the meeting approved multiple urban beautification projects, particularly in Lahore. Plans include the installation of a fountain and a miniature train for children in the park near the railway station, as well as the construction of new roads and pedestrian pathways within a three-kilometer radius of the area.
The meeting also reviewed the restoration of flood-damaged infrastructure, confirming that 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads have been fully rehabilitated. Road restoration projects in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal have also been completed.
