Authorities in Punjab have significantly increased cyber surveillance after uncovering a vast online network comprising more than 58,000 social media pages allegedly promoting anti-state narratives and extremist ideologies.
According to police sources, joint operations by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) have intensified cyber patrolling to detect and disrupt digital campaigns linked to terrorist groups. So far, 58,788 objectionable pages have been identified and reported to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for appropriate action.
Of these, 11,132 pages containing hate speech and anti-state content have already been blocked. Authorities also highlighted that 54 pages hosted highly provocative and dangerous material.
Officials estimate that approximately 80% of these digital propaganda efforts originate from foreign-based accounts. These accounts reportedly employ advanced social media algorithms to influence Pakistanโs youth, aiming to manipulate public opinion and stir instability.
Law enforcement has also expanded monitoring of individual users, with all suspicious activities being recorded for investigation. Legal action is expected against individuals or networks found responsible for such activities.
โOur cyber patrolling efforts have been enhanced to counter the ongoing digital warfare against the state,โ a senior police officer stated. โWe are committed to identifying and prosecuting those behind these malicious online campaigns.โ
