Thick Fog
Widespread thick fog has blanketed the cities of central Punjab, creating hazardous conditions and elevating the risk of accidents, particularly in Lahore. The severity of the fog has led to the closure of sections of the motorway, and citizens are grappling with reduced visibility, even with the use of fog lights.
Concerns have been raised about the perilous presence of trucks and loaders on the main roads of Lahore, further exacerbating the dangers posed by the fog. In areas without adequate streetlights, navigating through the fog becomes even more challenging.
The surge in traffic accidents in Lahore due to the fog is evident, with one tragic incident reported involving a car carrying a family from Narowal to Lahore. The vehicle veered off the road, falling into a nullah in Chungi Amar Sadhu, resulting in the loss of one life. In response to the escalating risks, the Director General of Rescue 1122 has issued a public appeal, emphasizing the importance of punctuality and caution on the roads.
He highlighted the correlation between rushing and increased accident rates, urging commuters to exercise patience and, when faced with dense fog, consider pausing their journeys rather than attempting to navigate through compromised visibility.
The DG also underscored the challenges faced by rescue vehicles in reaching accident sites promptly during foggy conditions, emphasizing the need for responsible commuting practices to ensure public safety.
The situation underscores the critical importance of heightened awareness, adherence to safety measures, and cooperative efforts to address the unique challenges posed by thick fog in central Punjab.
