Ban on Protests and Public Gatherings Continues Until November 8
The Punjab government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days. The decision aims to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, and prevent any potential unrest. The ban will now remain in effect until November 8, 2025.
According to a statement from the Punjab Home Department, all forms of rallies, protests, sit-ins, and public demonstrations will remain prohibited during this period. The restrictions also prevent the assembly of four or more individuals in public areas. The department said these steps were essential to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
Officials confirmed that displaying weapons, using loudspeakers without permission, and spreading hateful or sectarian material are strictly banned. The Home Department highlighted that these measures are necessary to curb the spread of misinformation and maintain peace throughout the province.
However, the government clarified that certain activities will be exempt from the ban. These include wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, and burial rites. Government officials performing official duties and court proceedings are also not affected by the restrictions. The use of loudspeakers will only be allowed for the Azaan (call to prayer) and Friday sermons.
A spokesperson for the department said the extension was made after careful assessment of the security situation. Authorities are taking all possible steps to prevent any incidents that could disrupt public life. The formal notification confirming the extension of Section 144 has already been issued by the Punjab Home Department.
Citizens have been urged to follow government directives and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The administration has warned that any violation of the restrictions will lead to strict legal action under existing laws.
