LAHORE: Punjab police expelled more illegal Afghan nationals and arrested more Afghan citizens living in Lahore unlawfully since 2005. Police officials shifted the arrested Afghans to detention centers as part of the ongoing repatriation drive.
A Lahore police spokesman said authorities had repatriated 1,918 Afghan nationals to their home country. Meanwhile, officials sent 31 others to jail and shifted 56 arrested Afghan nationals to holding centers.
The arrests came as authorities intensified action against foreign nationals staying in Pakistan without valid documents.
Police officials said the operation followed the government’s ongoing policy for returning illegal foreign nationals to their countries.
Police officials monitor repatriation process
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kimyana said authorities were taking every possible measure to ensure smooth repatriation from Lahore.
Furthermore, he directed Divisional Superintendents of Police to personally monitor the repatriation process across their respective areas.
He also ordered officers to speed up the repatriation of Afghan nationals whose visas had expired.
Meanwhile, district administration officials and law enforcement agencies continued close coordination during the operation.
Officials said authorities were conducting the repatriation process safely, respectfully and in an organised manner.
Punjab police and administrative departments have decided to continue monitoring the repatriation of illegal Afghans.
