In a decisive move to safeguard public well-being during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebrations, the Punjab government has imposed a province-wide ban on the installation and operation of temporary mechanical rides.
This ban, formally communicated through an official notification issued by the Home Department, is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring that safety standards are rigorously upheld during the festive season.
According to the notification, only mechanical rides that are permanently installed in registered amusement parks will be allowed to function. Even these, however, must possess a valid fitness certificate verifying their operational safety.
The certification must be obtained from the respective Deputy Commissioners of each district, who will be responsible for thoroughly inspecting the rides to ensure they meet all prescribed safety criteria.
The decision comes against the backdrop of increasing concerns about ride-related mishaps in recent years, particularly those involving makeshift or poorly maintained rides set up temporarily during public holidays and festivals.
Several incidents across the country have raised alarms about the risks associated with unregulated mechanical rides, prompting the provincial authorities to take preemptive action to avoid any potential tragedies.
The Home Department’s notification emphasizes that the primary objective of this ban is to protect human lives. The government has taken a firm stance, directing all district administrations to implement the ban without exception.
Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to carry out immediate inspections, deny permissions for temporary setups, and take action against violators who fail to comply with the safety regulations.
By enforcing this ban, the Punjab government aims to prioritize public safety over entertainment, particularly in high-traffic areas where families, including children, gather in large numbers during Eid.
