Punjab authorities have cancelled Salva’s Foods’ operating licence after inspectors discovered 3,000 kilograms of expired and contaminated raw materials at its production facility in Lahore.
Punjab Food Safety Minister Salma Butt announced the decision following an inspection that uncovered serious violations of food safety standards. Officials found fungus-infested ingredients, foul-smelling materials and unsafe mixtures that raised concerns about the company’s production practices.
The discovery has renewed concerns about food safety and the quality of ingredients used in products sold to consumers. Moreover, the action highlights the authorities’ efforts to enforce hygiene standards across food manufacturing facilities.
Inspectors Discover Expired and Contaminated Ingredients
During the inspection, officials identified approximately 3,000 kilograms of expired raw materials at the company’s factory. The materials reportedly included contaminated pulp, unsafe egg mixtures, mayonnaise mixtures and other ingredients that failed to meet required safety standards.
According to the minister, inspectors also found dirty and foul-smelling substances alongside fungus-affected materials. These findings raised concerns about the potential health risks if manufacturers used the ingredients in products intended for human consumption.
Salma Butt personally led the inspection and examined contaminated containers at the facility. Following the findings, she directed officials to take action against the company for violating food safety procedures.
Licence Cancelled Over Food Safety Violations
Salva’s Foods manufactures several food products, including ketchup, mayonnaise, biscuits and chutneys. The discovery of unsafe raw materials at its production facility has raised questions about the hygiene controls maintained during manufacturing.
Authorities cancelled the company’s licence after identifying the reported violations. However, further details about possible additional penalties or subsequent enforcement measures were not immediately available.
Expired and contaminated ingredients can threaten public health when manufacturers use them in food production. Therefore, food businesses must ensure that their raw materials remain safe and comply with applicable regulations.
The action underscores the importance of regular inspections, proper storage and strict quality control. Meanwhile, consumers rely on food safety authorities to identify violations and prevent potentially hazardous products from reaching the market.
