The Punjab government has approved Rs45.13 billion for three major health programmes during the ongoing fiscal year 2026-27.
The funding has been included in the province’s non-development budget. Moreover, the government will release the funds based on the performance of the respective programmes.
The approval covers the Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics programme, Maryam Nawaz Rural Hospitals and the Punjab Family Planning Programme. Together, these initiatives account for Rs45.13 billion in approved funding.
Rs30.63 Billion for Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics
The largest share of the approved amount has been allocated to the Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics programme.
According to the approved allocation, Rs30.63 billion will support the first, second and third phases of the programme. The funding is part of the current fiscal year’s non-development budget.
The allocation will support health clinics being developed under the programme across Punjab. Meanwhile, the release of funds will remain linked to performance.
Rs10 Billion Allocated for Rural Hospitals
Another Rs10 billion has been approved for Maryam Nawaz Rural Hospitals under the financial assistance model.
The allocation will support the rural hospital programme as part of the Punjab government’s approved health spending for 2026-27. Consequently, the programme now has a dedicated allocation within the current fiscal year’s budget.
The funding is expected to facilitate the programme’s implementation across the province. However, its release will follow the performance-based mechanism outlined by the government.
Rs4.50 Billion Set Aside for Family Planning
The Punjab government has also approved Rs4.50 billion for the Punjab Family Planning Programme.
This allocation will support family planning facilities across the province. Therefore, the programme forms the third major component of the newly approved Rs45.13 billion health funding package.
With all three allocations incorporated into the current fiscal year’s budget, the government has cleared the way for funds to be released.
Three Health Programmes Get New Funding
The approved allocations cover three separate areas of Punjab’s healthcare system. These include health clinics, rural hospitals and family planning facilities.
The Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics programme received the largest allocation at Rs30.63 billion. It is followed by Rs10 billion for Maryam Nawaz Rural Hospitals and Rs4.50 billion for family planning.
Together, the three allocations total Rs45.13 billion. The funds will form part of Punjab’s non-development spending for fiscal year 2026-27.
As a result, the approval provides the financial basis for implementing the three programmes during the current fiscal year. The government will release the approved funds according to performance.
