Property owners across Punjab will receive property tax concessions under a new self-assessment incentive programme. The initiative offers discounts to taxpayers who complete self-assessment and pay their dues within the prescribed deadlines.
According to official details, property owners who submit their self-assessment and pay their property tax by September 30 will receive a 10% discount. However, those who make payments after the deadline but within the same financial year will remain eligible for a 5% concession.
The scheme applies to property owners in Lahore and other districts across Punjab. Consequently, the government aims to encourage timely tax payments while simplifying the assessment process.
Self-Assessment System Offers Record Updates
Additional Director General Ahmad Saeed said existing taxpayers can also update or correct their property records through the new digital system. Furthermore, property owners registering a new unit can upload their self-assessment using the Excise Department’s online portal.
For existing properties, taxpayers can access their records by entering the 28-digit code printed on their property tax bill. Therefore, they can review and update property details without visiting government offices.
Officials believe the online system will make property tax administration more efficient and user-friendly.
Government Aims To Improve Transparency
Ahmad Saeed said the self-assessment system was introduced to increase transparency in the tax process. Moreover, the initiative seeks to reduce unnecessary direct interaction between taxpayers and officials.
He added that the new mechanism would help eliminate opportunities for corruption and minimise the risk of blackmail during property assessments.
The Punjab government expects the digital system to simplify tax compliance while improving public confidence in the assessment process. Meanwhile, officials have encouraged property owners to complete their self-assessments early to benefit from the maximum available discount.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise tax administration through digital services and improve transparency across government departments.
