Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has welcomed Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s offer to mediate amid tensions over possible governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Gohar said PTI appreciated the offer and wanted political issues to be addressed through democratic means. He said non-democratic measures should be avoided.
PTI Warns Against Governor’s Rule
Gohar said the federal government should not impose governor’s rule or an emergency in KP. He warned that such measures could further intensify political tensions.
He said PTI would oppose governor’s rule and use available legal and political options if it were imposed.
However, Gohar clarified that PTI had not made any decision to resign from the National Assembly. He said the party’s position on parliamentary resignations would be discussed separately.
The remarks come as the federal government continues to consider constitutional options amid its dispute with the PTI-led KP government. Federal ministers have recently said emergency measures remain under consideration.
October 4 March Remains Planned
Gohar also reiterated that PTI’s planned October 4 march towards Islamabad would remain peaceful.
The party had initially scheduled the march for September 27 but later postponed it to October 4. PTI leaders have since maintained that the march will proceed as planned.
The federal government has warned that it will prevent any activity that violates the law or disrupts public order. The Centre has also discussed the possibility of governor’s rule or an emergency in KP if the political confrontation continues.
JI’s mediation offer comes as both sides remain divided over the planned protest, the situation in KP and the possible use of constitutional measures.
