Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has announced that the party will launch a formal movement on August 5 for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
Speaking to the media, Gohar said the campaign would continue until both leaders are released. He said the movement would remain peaceful and rely on public participation.
“The movement starting August 5 will only end with the release of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi,” Gohar said.
PTI Calls For Peaceful Campaign
Gohar claimed no head of a political party had remained imprisoned for three consecutive years since Pakistan’s independence in 1947. He also argued that Imran Khan’s detention was unprecedented in recent political history.
However, he clarified that PTI was not creating any “release force.” Instead, the party has only called for volunteers to participate in a peaceful movement.
According to Gohar, the campaign aims to mobilise supporters through lawful political activities.
PTI Criticises AJK Election Process
Commenting on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, Gohar said PTI decided to boycott the polls after consulting the public. He claimed many voters chose not to participate.
Moreover, he alleged the elections recorded the lowest voter turnout in the region’s history. He also described the three-phase polling process as unconstitutional.
Gohar further criticised the current AJK government, claiming it had failed to deliver on key public issues. However, election authorities have not responded to his allegations in the statement provided.
