Members and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday, expressing their unwavering support for the judiciary and voicing frustrations over the lack of progress in legal proceedings involving their party leader, Imran Khan.
The demonstration was organized amid rising tensions regarding the delay in the hearing for the suspension of Khanโs sentence in the ยฃ190 million corruption case.
PTI leaders criticized the apparent absence of a hearing date, calling on the judiciary to expedite the process and ensure a fair and timely review of the former prime ministerโs legal appeals.
In anticipation of the protest, authorities ramped up security around the High Court premises. Police personnel, units of the Frontier Corps, armored vehicles, and prisoner transport vans were deployed to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.
The heightened security presence reflected the governmentโs caution in managing the political climate, especially given the sensitivity surrounding Imran Khanโs imprisonment.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Dr. Safeer, Advisor on Information for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reaffirmed PTIโs commitment to continue peaceful protests until justice is served. He declared that the protest at the IHC would be โsignificant,โ symbolizing the partyโs stance against what it perceives as a compromised and inefficient judicial system.
He also called for the reversal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which PTI alleges has been used to suppress opposition voices and manipulate legal outcomes.
Dr. Safeer strongly condemned the continuous legal delays, asserting that the denial of prompt hearings is, in essence, a denial of justice. He suggested that these delays are politically motivated and strategically designed to keep PTIโs founder incarcerated to prevent him from challenging the current government.
According to him, the ruling coalition views Imran Khanโs release as a threat to its fragile hold on power.
PTI leaders reiterated their demands for judicial transparency and fairness, pledging continued demonstrations until their concerns are addressed and justice is delivered.
